UMS Skeldar introduces modular platform design into its V-150

Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) regularly suffer from long maintenance schedules that mean platforms can spend more time on the ground than in the air. Often, this is due to them having a complicated design that requires very specialized maintenance experts and many days of work before they can be flown again. These unmanned aircraft need to be taken apart completely and then put back together to solve any issues, no matter how minor.

This is why UMS Skeldar is designing its new and improved V-150 VTOL UAS as a modular platform. With its new sectional design, issues in each department can be identified and worked on quickly, without deconstructing the entire platform. The heavy fuel engine, for instance, can be changed out in just 10 minutes—significantly quicker than the competition. Alongside quick and efficient maintenance schedules, the V-150 has also been designed to have a small logistical footprint, meaning it is ideal for sea and land-based operations where space is at a premium. This is especially useful for mobile tactical operations, where the requirement to be nimble and fully operational in a matter of minutes is of utmost importance. With customers demanding a VTOL UAS that can operate in these increasingly complicated missions, UMS Skeldar is ahead of the field with its V-150 platform.

The UMS team will be displaying the V-150 platform at UMEX 2022.
