New partnership between Rete Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI to develop monitoring systems

The signing of the agreement marks the launch of a collaboration between Rete Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI to support more than 7,100 Italian municipalities in gathering knowledge about how they could employ monitoring systems to improve road traffic infrastructure, the environment and cultural heritage

Rete Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI, the National Association of Italian Municipalities, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The agreement will enable an ongoing and structured dialogue through which Italy's more than 7,100 municipalities will gather knowledge about how monitoring systems could be applied to road, environmental and cultural heritage infrastructure.

The partnership between Rete Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI covers the monitoring of municipalities’ road traffic infrastructure as well as environmental and cultural heritage.

The agreement will promote and support the ability of municipalities to classify and manage risk relating to the environment and the state of cultural property, as well as monitor heritage infrastructure (bridges, viaducts, tunnels, embankments, overpasses and the like) via new technological solutions, each appropriate to the structure being monitored.

The MoU includes activities that Rete Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI will implement jointly in order to generate synergies. These include identifying technological gaps, sharing system solutions with the aim of identifying opportunities for common applications across different municipalities and defining a schedule of interventions that meet short-, medium- and long-term requirements to form a road map.

In this way, the agreement will enable dynamic and effective coordination between the parties to identify and trial innovative technical solutions to support classification activities, monitoring and risk management relating to infrastructure and works of art, developing relevant expertise at ANCI and its members and improving the awareness of available solutions.
